I created the Sheriff’s Office Task Force on 21st Century Policing in November, 2015 to update our policing model, improve our abilities to protect the public, affirm our commitment to community and maintain the trust and confidence we have earned. The Task Force, composed of deputies and support staff, met six times to discuss and evaluate the Recommendations and Action Items contained in the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report in order to produce an implementation plan. During that same time period, the Sheriff’s Advisory Team, composed of community members, met six times to offer citizen input on how the Sheriff’s Office could increase trust between law enforcement and the public while promoting effective crime prevention strategies. The product of these efforts are contained in Recommendations and the results may be found in Implementation and Data sections, all of which are available on this website.
